CHAPTER 2
"The first crop"

That morning, Jack woke up with lot of energy and was ready for a new workday. To avoid starvation, as had happened in the previous day, he decided to have breakfast before going to work. While thinking he could be without food one day, he took out a few fruits of his fridge, then ate them, accompanying them with a cup of tea. When he finish his breakfast, he left his home. The first thing he do was to go see his turnips. Outbreaks had left. Jack was very happy to see that his turnips were growing well. After seeing them for a while, he took out his watering can from his backpack, he went to fetch water in a small well that was on his farm, and then watered the turnips. When he finished, he walked to the way for the forest  thinking about what fishes he could catch, he remembered that he had left some in the shipping box. Excited, he ran to see how much money they had left him, but he was disappointed to see how much it was. Inside the shipping box they had barely left fifteen miserable cents. His first thought when picking up the pennies, was that the man who collected the goods was a stingy, but then thought and realized that perhaps, he had left him a little amount because of the size that had the four fishes. However, he also thought that the fishing effort deserved more money, and therefore, he still considered him a cheapskate.
After saving the money, and went on into the forest. At the bridge, he began to fish. As fishing washow he get money and food, he decided to do the same every day: Wake up, eat breakfast, water his turnips, go fishing, eat lunch, go fishing, dinner finally, lie down on his bed and sleep. He did so, and this was his daily routine. In his routine, he was also going to greet Popuri sometimes, if he find her. When they had gone about four days, Jack was unable to continue doing his routine, because something unexpected happened. That day, he had gone to water his turnips, and seeing them, Jack was delighted. His turnips were almost ready to harvest.

- Great, I will shortly have my first harvest! "Said Jack, very happy. As he watched them, he counted the  outbreaks, and thought he had planted very little, and if he wanted to progress, he should have more crops, and thought of going to buy seeds, but just before going, he thought: "When Popuri help me planting turnips, I was not very gentle with her, if I find her in the Flower Shop, I should apologize. But ... that was some time ago, and apologize now would be ridiculous. What can I do? ". After that, how was the day he meet her and how she helped him to plant turnips, after remembering,he got an idea. He ran into the woods, and then went to the side of the Goddess. Upon arrival, he began to collect the most beautiful yellow flowerw he founded. Just as he was going to pick up the last one, a shadow appeared in front of him. Startled, he looked back and saw that it was Popuri.

- Why are you cutting the flowers? These flowers belong to this place, you should not remove them. "Popuri said, very angry. Jack did not know what to do, they were for her, but how he would say it?.

He was desperate, he couldn’t think what to say, but certainly very determined said:

"These ... I cut them for you. "Said Jack, nervous and blushing. When Popuri hear this, she thought it was just an excuse, but the gesture was Jack, and his face flushed, she realized it was true. After this, Jack stretch his arms so that Popuri could take the flowers. She took the flowers fomr the Jack’s hands, and then blushed. She had never received flowers from a boy. Jack also wanted to tell her the reason of why he gave her the flowers, but then declined to speak, after all, she looked very happy.

"Oh ... Um ... thanks. "Popuri said, timidly, then left the lake, carrying the flowers. Jack, however, remained on the lake, thinking on Popuri.
As he thought about it, he remembered that he had planned to buy seeds, so he left the lake to go to the Flower Shop. Upon arrival, he took a bag of turnip seeds, and left it the table in front of Lillia, so that she could  see it.

"I'll buy it.
"Well, is twenty-five cents. "Said Lillia, and Jack, put the money on the table.
"Here it is, thanks. "Said Jack. Then he took the bag, and headed for the door. Just when he was to open it, someone opened from the outside to enter. It was Popuri that came with the flowers that Jack had given her on the hand. When Popuri saw Jack, her whole face turned red, because she was nervous to see Jack after he had given the flowers. Trying not to see Jack, she looked down, and entered a door of the Shop. Just when Popuri closed the door, Jack felt a huge heat throughout his body. Jack left the shop, and ran to his farm, so he spent the uncomfortable heat. Upon arrival, sighed, and then started planting seeds. He planted along all the tips Popurid had told him when she helped him to plant the first time. After planting, he continued his daily routine, but being nervous and alert for approaching Popuri.
The next day, Jack changed his routine a bit. That Friday, he decided to go fishing on the beach. From the beginning, Jack did not know how to get to beach, but Gray had told him where it was and how to get there. When Jack was about to arrive, a man dressed in red, and that was a little short, don’t let him.

- Stop! You can’t pass. “Said the man.
"But ... Why? "Jack said, worried.
"Because we are preparing things for the festival" Firefly Festival"
- When does it start? "Said Jack, touched by wanting to go to the festival.
- Is still missing! Starts at nine in the evening. "Jack was planning on going, and how not to do anything special at that time,he  decided that if he would go at night. He will invite Popuri, to go with him to the festival, but  it would be very difficult. However,he would like that Popuri was at his side for a festival. For some reason, Jack felt that spending a festival with Popuri,was something that he will like that happen. Popuri eager to ask if she wanted to go with him, went fishing, for surely she would walk around there, and if she did, he might ask her. When he reached the river, he threw the hook in the water, and began to fish. This time, he was quite lucky as it had been just five minutes, and had already caught two fishes. Just as he threw his line into the water for the third time, Popuri entered the forest, but Jack did not realize that. Popuri, would get closer to Jack, until he put his hand and greeted him.

"Hi Jack. "Said Popuri. Just Jack heard the gentle voice of Popuri, he knew she was.
- Popuri, good to meet you! "Said Jack, happy.
- In truth, and why? He asked curious Popuri.
"I wanted to ask something important.
- Yes, and what is it?
"I wanted ... to know if you ..." said Jack, very nervous, unable to complete his sentence.
- If I what?
-... If you like ...
- What?
- ... No, no, sorry. "Said Jack, knowing that he don’t have the courage to tell her.
"I know something, Jack. I'm your friend you can trust me. Come on, tell me what I meant.
"Seriously, it's nothing. "Said Jack, persistent.
"Well, whatever you want, bye! "Popuri said, and left. Jack gave a sigh, he felt he had failed by not having the courage to ask her. This get him very angry, he really wanted to go with Popuri to the festival, but also thought that maybe, Popuri will go to the festival on her own, so at least she could be there. With this, the matter left behind, and he went fishing.
At night, they were just nine, Jack went to the beach.  They Haven’t started with the main attraction of the festival, but everything was ready. Jack was looking through all the people for Popuri, but he did not see her anywhere. Apparently, Popuri had not gone to the festival. This was very sad for Jack, therefore,  he didn’t have interest on wath was happening in the festival. The time made it fairly short, every hour of the festival, was a minute for him, he didn’t  notice when people started to go. When he realized he was alone in the dark of night, he heard someone's voice.

"Someone ... Is anyone there? "Said someone who by it voice could be identified coming from a girl, and apparently was close to Jack.
- Who's there? "Asked Jack, afraid.
- I need help, I can’t see nothing! “Said the girl. Jack approached the girl, following her voice with confidence. Jack reached out to see where the girl was, and managed to touch her hand. In doing so, put it to not lose it. "Take me home, please, you know where is the bakery?
-No.
- You know how to get to the florist?
"To the florist, yes.
"Well, in front of the florist is the bakery. If you take me there, I'll be safe.
"I'll take you there, but do not let go, or you'll miss. "Said Jack, still holding the hand of the girl. Jack knew the way by heart from his home to the florist, he could get from the beach without seeing anything. Jack and the girl left the road, walking slowly and carefully to avoid tripping over anything. When Jack seemed to have reached a house, he bent down to check if it was the florist. He reached out and touched a flower, he knew for sure had come to the florist. He got up and turned to take against the bakery. He walked slowly to hit a wall. It was touching the wall and moving to the right time, to knock on the door. When found, knocked on the door.

- Are we there yet? Asked the girl, hearing that Jack hit a door. Jack had to knock on the door twice, because apparently no one inside was heard. But neither was the second answer, so they struck a third time, but now with more force. This time, he heard someone inside, walking along a wooden floor. Suddenly, the lights of a lantern that was next to the door of the bakery and the door had opened. With the light, Jack could see was the girl. It was quite nice, had eyes the color of cinnamon, which combined with short brown hair, and wore a pretty blue apron. The man who had opened, was a chef-like,that was surprised to see Jack and the Girl.

- Elli, I thought you were already in bed!
"I was still in the festival. "He said the girl.
- Why are you so late?
"Because it was all very dark, you could not see anything, but he helped me get here. If not for him, I might not have ever returned. "He said Elli, very grateful. Then he turns and looks at Jack. "Thanks for letting me in the bakery, I can’t imagine what I have done without you! "Said Elli, very grateful.
"You are welcome, but I just help you a little bit. Well, I have to go before it is later.
"No, wait. "Said Elli, she enters the house and returned with a lighted candle. Then stretcher arms so that Jack could grab it. "With this you will not have trouble returning to your home.
- Thanks! "Said Jack, going the way home. Jack tried to go slowly so that the candle won’t turn of with the wind. Jack, just got home and went to sleep.
The next day, Jack was awakened by someone knocking on his door. Since he had to open, he dressed as quickly as possible, and went to open the door. It was Popuri.

- Jack, come quick, your turnips are fullgrown! "Popuri said, very excited. Jack, ran out of his house and went to see his turnips. Popuri was right, his turnips were ready to be harvested. Jack take them out of the land carefully to avoid damaging them. He had garnered nine. Five left them in the shipping box, while the other three  kept them in his backpack, leaving one on his hand. Jack, blushing, told Popuri, stretching his arms.

"Here, this is for you. "Said Jack, kindly.
"Thank you, but they are yours,Jack.
"But without you, they wouldn’t have grown.
"Well, if you insist, I will accept. "Popuri said, blushing a little. Popuri received the turnip, and both looked at each other, looked straight in the eye, without opening the sight of each other, until Popuri smiled.

"Stop looking me, I get embarrassed. "Popuri said, with a very soft voice. Jack blushed and began to look at anything that was not Popuri. In his face you could see he was pretty nervous. Popuri, to see it, let out a soft laugh.

"Thank you again for giving me this turnip, goodbye. "Popuri said, to be walking very happy. Jack said nothing, stood there thinking, that perhaps she really wanted it, and that someday she could be your girlfriend, but think about that was too soon, he just had given flowers and a turnip. But then, in his mind something that took all the inspiration and the heat, leaving him cold. He had thought that perhaps, another guy had already given him better things, or worse, that she already had a boyfriend. Think of this without having evidence was not entirely ridiculous, because Popuri was a very loving and attractive girl, and more than a boy must have loved her. Jack, he definitely had to learn this as quickly as possible, because he opposed to the idea that Popuri break his heart.
